Frequently Asked Questions
What makes your maps so special?

All of our maps are printed using a Lithographic printing process. This works like a mechanised version of traditional screen-printing. A plate is made for each colour and then laid down individually. It gives you a stunning quality print with great definition and colour impact.

The beauty of Lithographic printing is that the process allows you to print with special colours not achievable by digital printing.

Digital printing is fast becoming the process of choice as it is quick and requires little set up as colours are matched roughly from four general colours - usually cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK).

We use metallic inks for the seas in all of our maps and in some cases fluorescent inks for impact.

Our maps are printed onto the highest quality silk-coated paper, giving a low surface shine and luxurious finish.

Once printed, a sealer is added to the surface of the paper. This helps protect the inks, allowing you to gently wipe it down with a damp cloth.

We finish all of our maps with an ultra violet gloss varnish that is applied to the landmasses only. This adds a contrast of textures to the surface of the print that light plays off to great effect.

Why are you called The Future Mapping Company?

We felt that most of the wall maps on the market place were firstly very similar and secondly quite stayed in their appearance.

The company therefore set out to create cartography with greater visual impact that would complement today’s living environments and office spaces.

The name was chosen to compliment our young companies desire for more inspired, forward thinking design.

What do the colours represent on your map?

The colours on a political map today, are there primarily to highlight a countries borders and shape. Where there is political allegiance colour is linked, however this does not work throughout as we use a total of four colours to fill the land masses.

We choose our colours for aesthetic impact and to add choice to the purchase.

Our Futuremaps line looks to remove the abrupt borderlines of more traditional designs by grading colours through countries and continents. This gives a more balanced and harmonious view.
